Sternschnuppern is a charming and family-friendly discovery game by HABA that invites players to explore a magical woodland world under the gentle glow of falling stars. Simple enough for young children to enjoy, yet layered with strategic options for more experienced players, it’s a playful blend of memory, planning, and a dash of luck.
In Sternschnuppern, each player lifts moss-covered pillars (Moossäulen) to reveal hidden stars. Your goal is to collect stars in your own favorite color, placing them on your player board and eventually moving them to your background for scoring. The game shines in its adaptability: there’s an accessible introductory version designed for players as young as four, where you’ll focus on matching star colors to your tableau. Once you’ve mastered the basics, the advanced mode—“Das große Schnuppern”—adds extra layers of depth. Suddenly gray stars appear, forest animal tiles come into play, and the challenge grows more complex, testing not only your memory but also your ability to strategize and think ahead.
HABA is known for creating games that children and adults can enjoy together, and Sternschnuppern is no exception. Younger players will delight in the excitement of uncovering hidden stars, while older siblings and parents can appreciate the strategic nuances introduced in the advanced variant. The game’s mix of memory, luck, and mild tactical decisions ensures it remains engaging after multiple plays. Each session feels like a gentle adventure into the woods, searching for that perfect constellation of stars.
True to HABA’s standards, the components are sturdy, colorful, and appealing to young eyes and curious hands. The moss pillars, star tokens, and adorable forest animal illustrations evoke a cozy, enchanted forest vibe. It’s a visually inviting experience that draws players into its world and encourages them to keep exploring turn after turn.

Milena:
I love Sternschnuppern! I like lifting up the moss pieces and finding stars. Sometimes I find the right color and it makes me really happy. When I play with my family, we all take turns and I get so excited to see what’s under the moss! The little forest animals are cute, and I like when I find new stars to put on my board. Even though I’m only four, I can still play the easy version and have lots of fun. I feel like a star explorer in a magic forest!
